Carpet Cleaning in Chestnut Hill

Chestnut Hill’s stone homes and Victorian-era houses often come with wool rugs, older wall-to-wall carpet, and upholstery that deserves a more careful approach than a standard rental steam cleaner would give it. The Five Star team tests wool before applying any cleaning solution, which matters a lot on the tree-lined streets here where older, higher-value textiles are common.

Does a historic home need a different cleaning approach than a newer house?

In some cases, yes — older wool carpet and antique or wool area rugs can react differently to cleaning solutions than synthetic carpet, so our technicians check the material and colorfastness first rather than running the same process on everything. That extra step protects rugs and carpet that may be harder to replace than a standard synthetic piece.

Are wool rugs safe to clean with the same equipment as regular carpet?

They can be, but they’re handled separately and more carefully — area rug cleaning is done as its own process, off to the side, with wool tested before any solution touches the whole rug. This matters for the family pieces and older rugs that show up more often in Chestnut Hill homes than in newer construction elsewhere in the city.

For wall-to-wall carpet, green carpet cleaning uses non-toxic, green-certified solutions, which fits well with a neighborhood where a lot of homeowners already lean toward lower-impact products for the house. Carpet that’s shifted over the years in an older stone home can also be re-stretched — carpet stretching comes with a 5-year warranty on the work. Upholstery in these older homes, from formal living rooms to family rooms, can be cleaned in the same visit. See the Philadelphia service area page for coverage in nearby neighborhoods.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will you test a wool rug before cleaning it?

Yes — our team tests wool rugs for colorfastness and reaction before applying any cleaning solution, since wool and antique rugs need different handling than synthetic carpet.

Are the cleaning solutions safe for a historic home?

The solutions used are green-certified and non-toxic, which works well for older homes and for households that prefer to limit harsher chemicals indoors.
