My cat tore up the carpet at the bedroom door. Can that be fixed?
In most cases, yes, without replacing the carpet. Doorways are the number one spot for pet damage: a closed door makes a cat dig at the gap underneath, and a bored dog chews the edge. We cut out the damaged section and set in a matching piece of the same carpet. The patch is seamed in and the pile is blended so it’s hard to spot once it’s done.
The matching piece usually comes from leftover carpet if you kept any, or from a spot nobody sees, like the back of a closet.
Why does pet damage make the whole room loose?
When a cat pulls at carpet near the wall or the door, it can lift the carpet off the tack strip. Once one edge lets go, the rest of the room relaxes and ripples start showing up in the middle. So a scratched doorway and a wavy bedroom floor are often the same problem. We fix the damaged spot first, then re-stretch the room so the carpet is tight again.
What about the smell?
If the pet also had accidents in that room, the odor is in the padding, not just the carpet. Stretching won’t fix that. We can treat it on the same visit with our pet odor and stain removal, which uses an enzyme product to break the odor down. In bad spots the padding underneath gets replaced before the carpet goes back down.
How do I stop it from happening again?
- Lay a scratch guard or a small rug across the doorway the cat targets.
- Give the cat a scratching post near that door.
- Trim nails regularly so they hook the loops less.
- Fix a loose edge as soon as you see it; a lifted corner is an invitation.
